Summertime is the perfect time for a healthy detox! When I think of summer I think about sunshine and locally grown produce. Both make this Green Girl detox smoothie incredibly powerful. But why are greens so important? The green pigment is packed with a little known gem called Chlorophyl. Chlorophyl cleans and alkalizes the blood. It truly is a powerful player in a detox smoothie.

There is something so healing and mindful about growing your own produce or going to a local stand. The healing benefits far exceed what you buy in a grocery store. The less travel a veggie does the more it holds it’s nutrient content.

Besides green veggies and herbs, I love to add seeds such as Pumpkin, Flax or Chia to a smoothie. Pumpkin seeds are high in magnesium and zinc. Flax and Chia are a great source of omega 3. Other superfoods I love are healing powders such as Spirulina or Chlorella. Green algae is high in chlorophyll and a definite recommendation when detoxing. They help remove heavy metals from the organs and blood stream.

For any detox smoothie or juice I always add fresh herbs like parsley and cilantro. Both detox the liver and kidneys and have powerful healing benefits. In addition, I love to add lettuces and greens such as red leaf lettuce and spinach, which are packed with vitamin K and folate.

 

Green Girl Detox Smoothie

This green smoothie will detox your organs and give a boost of energy!

  • 3/4 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup organic baby spinach
  • 1/4 cup organic italian parsley
  • 1/4 cup organic cilantro
  • 2 leaves organic red leaf lettuce or romaine
  • 1 cucumber (small~I peel mine)
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 lime peeled
  • 1 tbs organic raw pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp spirulina powder
  1. Add all ingredients to your favorite blender

  2. Blend and enjoy!

 

When it comes to detoxing, it’s important to do your research and/or work with a practitioner on the best approach for you. You can overdo it and have side affects as your body is expelling toxins.
